There are several vibration test types to choose from, the two most common being sine and random. Customers of Vibration Research often request advice on determining which of the two they should run. Specifically, they want to know which test will be more damaging with the goal of quickly pinpointing product flaws.
It is possible to compare the test levels of a sine and a random test. This webinar will walk through a method of comparing the severity of two tests using peak acceleration, Gpk. Resonance at peak G levels is the primary source of damage during vibration testing. However, a higher Gpk does not always mean the test will be more damaging. Use this resource to review the calculations for peak acceleration and determine how to interpret the severity between tests.
