Displacement Wedge

Shakers

A displacement wedge helps measure displacement/distance using the principle of persistence of vision. Test engineers can use it as a method of verification to establish that their vibration test system is functioning without unexpected activity due to an incorrect input sensitivity.

Using a Displacement Wedge

  1. In VibrationVIEW, select Configuration > Inputs and enter the transducer sensitivities.
  2. Attach a displacement wedge to the head of the shaker.
  3. Run a Sine test. For electrodynamic shakers, 0.1 in displacement pk-pk and 30Hz are typical values. These values may differ if using a hydraulic system.
  4. When the shaker comes up to level, the two lines on the displacement wedge will blur. Confirm that the lines intersect each other at 0.1 in displacement.
