Calibration and calibration verification are how Vibration Research (VR) establishes and maintains hardware measurement accuracy. The goal is to ensure that these systems will always perform accurate tests and measurements throughout their lifetimes.

Calibration happens in the lab at VR. Before shipment, every hardware unit goes thru an adjustment process, where minute changes are made to measured voltage and frequency readings so they are always within very small, clearly established tolerances.

While the units are extremely accurate when they leave VR, all electronic systems are subject to some form of fatigue and drift due to normal use, and our systems are no exception. That is why we recommend that our customers implement an annual calibration verification for all VR9500 and ObserVR1000 systems.

Three Ways to Accomplish Calibration Verification

  1. Send it to VR headquarters where the lab will perform one of two options: an ISO calibration certificate, or a NIST traceable calibration certificate.
  2. Use the automated Calibration Verification software from VR; this requires a calibration verification license (the license is already included if the hardware as part of a current Upgrades & Support Agreement).
  3. Perform the calibration verification with an in-house, customized procedure; VR recommends modeling any custom procedure according to the manufacturer recommendations

When calibration verification shows that a hardware unit is no longer generating in-tolerance measured voltages, then that unit should be returned to VR headquarters for calibration adjustment and, perhaps, repair.
