Vibration tests often end after business hours after everyone in the lab has gone home. However, even after the test completes, the shaker, amplifier, and blower remain powered on and consume energy. And, as the equipment is powered on and generates heat, the air conditioner must continue to run as well. Even worse, the blower expels the conditioned air like blowing money out the window.

Scheduled System Shutdown

The VR9601 Wired Remote Control option can shut down the shaker, amplifier, and blower as a scheduled function upon completing a test.

Emergency Stop

The emergency stop switch, or e-stop, allows lab personnel to stop a test away from the computer screen. E-stop shuts down a test at the abort rate defined in the test profile. This switch will quickly stop the test without inflicting a transient shock onto the device under test.

E-stop is a hardware option that consists of a mushroom switch in a magnetic mount enclosure and a 10-meter cable. This safety circuit requires continuity to run the system.

E-stop is wired into the green Phoenix connector into the rear of the VR9500/VR10500 I/O unit. After setup, the controller will only allow a test to run if there is continuity at the defined e-stop location on the Phoenix connector.

The VR9601 option also includes the following:

  • System monitor
  • Power sequencer and interlock (electrodynamic shakers, servo-hydraulic shakers, chambers)
  • Control external devices – programmable outputs based on the test level

Remote Terminals or Chamber Integration

Remote Test Selection & Chamber Integration graphic

Use the remote terminals to connect the controller to the operator station pushbuttons. Alternatively, integrate the controller with your chamber.

This option enables the rear terminal block TTL-level inputs and outputs. Each input can be configured to start, stop, and select tests. The user can control the optional data recorder with the inputs and indicate the test status in process with the outputs. Use up to eight TTL outputs or choose six TTL outputs with two high current outputs on each VR9500/VR10500.

Cost Savings

The wired remote control option pays for itself in a short period.

Average hours/month equipment remains on after completion of a test (less than 1 weekend) 40 hours
Typical hourly energy consumption of idle equipment (including the cost of air conditioning) 25 kW
Typical cost per kWh $0.11
Typical monthly energy cost of idle equipment $110.00
List price for VR9601 $850.00
Simple payback 8 months

VR9602 Digital Remote I/O with Analog Inputs

The inputs on the back of the VR9500/VR10500 can function as analog DC monitor inputs with the VR9602 option. This option allows the user to monitor processes, plot graphs, and store data from analog signals including armature current, armature voltage, field current, and field voltage.

Monitor Inputs

Monitor inputs can be used to monitor any DC process signal. The voltage between each rear input and the GND terminal is scaled to represent a process variable. The key amplifier values are measured with optional transducers wired into the rear panel.

Additional inputs can monitor temperature or other values relevant to the device under test. Each process value is saved with the test data and can be plotted over time. Each process value also has optional limits to abort the test. A maximum of 16 process variables can be logged and an additional 16 abort monitor channels are available. The VibrationVIEW software allows the user to scale the engineering units from a ±10-volt input range.
